I'm currently working on a contract in Australia and my housemate has given his notice to move out, leaving a vacancy. There's only one other housemate in a very large house, so it's a good opportunity for a mature professional to make it their home.
The house
This is a large 3-storey house on a quiet residential cul-de-sac, within easy walking distance of the city centre and transport links.
Unlike most share houses, you get a LOT of communal space with this one!
The three bedrooms (including my empty one) and bathroom are on the top floor. Then go downstairs to the middle floor - there's a dining room with fireplace and piano. There's also a separate living room with a TV/TiVo, gas fire and picture window, and an office space with shelving.
Then down another flight of stairs to the bottom floor - here you have the main living room with Virgin TiVo, projector/screen/sound system, and open-plan kitchen with washer/dryer and electric cooker. Here you can walk out of the back door into the garden, which has a small patio area and a decent fruit & veg plot growing strawberries and rhubarb. Green fingers welcome - the garden gets very easily overgrown!
The basement level stays wonderfully cool on hot summer days, and your double-glazed bedroom is quiet and cosy on chillier nights.
The rooms
Room 1 is at the front of the house and is occupied by my housemate Steve. He's been here well over a year now and is very settled - he works at the hospital down the road doing daytime shifts, and is a regular gym bunny.
Room 2 is currently available. It's at the back of the house with a great view over the river Usk, recently refurbished with brand new carpets, freshly painted walls, high-quality blackout curtains and plenty of storage. Furniture includes a solid double bed (bedding can be provided), large double wardrobe with drawer under and two fitted cupboards.
Each room is £325 for a single occupant, or £400 for a couple.
With this house, you get space to spread out. It has original features from the 1920's, a great neighbourhood and a friendly vibe. It's in good condition having been completely rewired just a couple of years ago and having an annual gas safety check and service. The hallways and stairs were freshly decorated and recarpeted just last year and I'm gradually doing more and more home improvements each time I pop home from work abroad.
Steve usually uses the TV in the middle-floor living room, so the projector / cinema system on the bottom floor is basically yours!
This is my home and I love it - it's important that my housemates love it too and take good care of it. My job means I'm away most of the time, usually living out of motels doing research, so you might not see me for 6 months or more at a time. In fact I'm currently working in Australia so please email me and I promise to reply when I'm awake!
